So I wasn’t a stranger to babies, but I was a stranger to newborns.
My little sweet pea was a week old, just barely, maybe even only 5 or so days and I go to change her diaper and there is blood!
I try not to panic. So I look up her symptoms online and in all my books. They suggest that it is an allergy. I decide to call the doctor.
They ask me a few questions and they tell me that it’s probably "pseudo-menses".
Pseudo-menses, you mean like a period?!
WHAAAAT!!!
Now I thought I was prepared for a lot of things. Not all things, but a lot of things. But a BABY PERIOD! Holy Crap!
I was relieved but flabbergasted. WHY DONT THEY TELL YOU THIS CAN HAPPEN BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HOSPITAL!!
"Feel free to take the diapers and wipes, leave the linens and oh yeah, here are some baby tampons because your NEWBORN DAUGHTER might get her period"
I’m just saying a little warning would have been nice. I read so many books and was registered with so many websites and I NEVER heard of this!
After about a week it was gone, just like a regular period.
Call me gross but I had to show people too, so when people came over I would show them by kid’s period diaper. HA!
