Nothing too serious...Im sure.

Last night I woke up with a jolt at about 330 in the morning. I heard a large crash…like something falling from a high place. It was so loud my ear actually hurt. I nudge Husband and he is sound asleep. So, I lay there in the dark, thinking wondering and listening.
Should I go check it out?
Things seem to be quiet now.
I should check it out otherwise I am not going to go back to sleep.
So I get out of bed and say a prayer that I don’t find something or someone scary in our tiny apartment.
First I turn on the hall light. That will startle anything or anyone and possibly stop them from doing whatever it is that they are doing.
I peek in on the baby…sound asleep.
I stealthily stalk through the rest of the apartment.
Phew, no one is here.  But what made the crashing noise? I check the closets. I peek at the walls to see if all our frames and wall hangings are still in place and they are. Everything looks normal.
Weird.
I KNOW I heard something. It was SO loud. My ear hurts!!!!
So I go back to bed and I lay there.
Was the door locked? Did I REALLY check everything.
If there was a killer in my apartment, he probably hid after he knocked down whatever crashed and quickly put it back.
I should go check again.
So I get up. Do I arm myself?  I'm really too tired to figure out what makes a better weapon at this time. A Pretty Yellow Shoe with a 4 inch heel, Husbands hair pick, my chunky beaded necklace?
Eh, Ill just scream and run to the babies room. Husband, youll have to fend for yourself this time!
I peek on the baby again, make my way through the apartment and this time I check for an intruder instead of a misplaced item.
Nothing.
I check the locks on the doors. Locked.
I head back to the baby’s room and turn on the monitor.
Now Ill REALLY hear if there is someone stalking around my home.
I lay in bed and eventually fall back asleep.
The day goes on, my ear STILL hurts but I just figure the noise came from the upstairs apartment OR that my mind was playing a trick on me and that nothing really fell.

This is what I do. Its morbid. Its strange.
If I'm driving on the turnpike, I ask myself “If the car in front of me exploded, which way will I swerve”
When I start a new job, I look around at my surroundings and figure out the best hiding place if someone decides to go postal.

I don’t know when I started doing this or why. I know its goofy. I don’t take myself so seriously though. Not usually.  Although, there was the time when I was 5 months pregnant and Husband was late coming home. So I am sobbing while doing the dishes trying to figure out where I am going to live and raise my unborn child. Because he isn’t just late, or worse missing. It’s the worse case scenario, he is dead and I'm a pregnant widow. But really, I don’t take myself too seriously. J

Then I found it. A rogue mug in the corner of the kitchen behind the shelf. Em was playing with mugs earlier and I put them back in their place. But not securely and this particular mug hit a couple pots on the way down to the floor.

Not sure why my ear hurts though.
Probably an earwig or aliens. Nothing too serious I'm sure.
