DIY Fairy Wand

Here is a little craft Em and I did last week. Well I did most of the work, but it was fun to do and turned out kinda cute...kinda bulky, but good for little toddler hands. Basically we have a lot of crafting crap leftovers and I wanted an excuse to use it/get rid of it. :)

1. We took a paper towel roll, put some dried rice in it so it makes a rattly sound.
2. Put some construction paper on the end and fastened it with a rubber band.

3. Quadruple fastened.

4.Took some streamer and mod podged it to the roll over the construction paper and rubber bands. I was going to use Elmers but the nozzle was broken so I ended up tossing it. So Mod Podge it was.

5. Had Em paste some squares cut from tissue wrapping paper onto the roll using  a glue stick.

6. Gluing.

7. Gluing.

 8. Rambo Break.

9. Then I had her add her own touch with some markers. Notice how she is using a Sharpie. I realized during this project my kid really needs her own markers so after this project I bought her some kid appropriate markers.

10. Writing.

11. More Writing.

12. Took a break from writing on our wand to practice our letters. :)

 13. Then I Mod Podged the tissue paper down.

14. I made a little tissue pom-pm and tied some ribbon and tulle  to the wand to give it some magic flair.

And here is our finished result...

Pardon the blurry pics of em playing. I had a REALLY hard time getting her to stand still long enough for a picture with the wand. There you have it!

Check out the toddler appropriate supplies :)

How I See Things

I found my nail polishes like this. I think the caption should go as such...

In the Battle at Sally Hansen. It is unknown who shot the first shot. "Divine Wine" was the first and  only casualty since the opposition immediately surrendered when they saw the enemy was armed with Pretty Nails non-acetone Instant Polish Remover.

If you were looking for government secrets, I apologize. There are none here.

DIY Pinterest Project: Pass Fail Pass

I heart Pinterest. I have become so inspired and feel like I am on my way to super wife/mom, until my DIY project fails...then I am reminded of who I am. Me. But then I make it work and feel better about myself, at least until my next project.

Here is my latest.

I loved the idea of this pin...
Source

A fun make up board where you can see all your make up and its not sprawled out all over your dresser.
1)It called for a frame. PASS!
2)She bought metal from a hardware store and had them cut it...FAIL I am not going to go to the hardware store and ask them to cut metal, it seems like too much work and I would feel dumb.
3)Spray adhesive and fabric is needed...DOUBLE FAIL! I'm on a roll now.

Since I couldn't follow through with steps 2 and 3 I decided to go rogue and do my own thing. So I went to the dollar store and found a circle cooking sheet that was magnetic! PASS!
Magnetic cookie sheet from Dollar Store with dents.
I let Em play with it until I was ready to complete this project and we got a little denty. Still its a PASS!

I then spray painted it to match our bedroom decor.
But wait, the color that actually sprays out doesn't really match the lid and doesn't really match our bedroom at all. Eh...PASS!
4)Hot Glue and Magnets...PASS!
I start to glue the magnets to my make-up and stick them to the pan but alas, its too heavy for the dollar store pan or the paint is too thick, I don't know what the deal was...the make-up kept falling off the pan. FAIL FAIL FAIL!
Sigh.
Well, I cant let my hard work go to waste. So I stick the pan to side of Em's kitchen set and we stick her letters to it and what do you know it works! PASS!

Magnetic Letter Board

Look how she actually smiled for the picture! I am super mom again. PASS!
Happy Pinning People!

Vintage Nursery!

I know some pretty cool peeps that are expecting their little one any day now and they just completed his nursery. Its vintage inspired and many of the toys belonged to them when they were tots. The colors and theme are just plain cool, but I would expect nothing less from those two.

Vintage Inspired Boys Nursery

I had that Fisher Price phone too!

Old books and Fisher Price toys.

More Vintage toys. Some are thrifted.

Fisher Price Farm, I remember how the doors "mooed" when you opened them.

I DIM! Tot Style

To beat the heat we are staying indoors. I even brought Em's new water table into the kitchen because I couldn't handle sitting next to her on the porch while she played. For an additional activity we experimented with making SLIME!!! I got the idea from pinterest, but the recipe called for liquid starch! I don't know ANYONE that has liquid starch in their home ready to use. So I found another recipe online here. The end result was less like slime and more like soupy play-dough, but it was still kinda fun to play with and less toxic too.
The recipe was pretty simple...
1 Cup of Warm Water, 1 Cup of Corn Starch, mix with a "wooden spoon" .
I do not have a wooden spoon but I think I need to get one as I keep coming across recipes that don't want me using my plastic serving spoons to mix...not sure why.
She kept saying "Yucky...Boop!" Mimicking mom picking it up and plopping it on the table.

Em paints her nails with her "slime"
Its supposed to keep for a week, We will see.

UPDATE!!!
The Goopy Slime DID NOT Keep in the zip lock bag. It turned a splotchy type of green and started to separate a little. So I tossed it. We have moved on to store bought Play-dough :)

Things that are pup in the night

I dont sleep well. I blame our bed. But getting a new mattress is on the same list as "laser eye surgery" and "Mediterranean Cruise". Luxury Items.
I was laying awake in bed and I heard a noise...It was like a thump or something falling.
If you have read my blog before, then you might be thinking "I've heard this one" BUT WAIT, this time it is  different I promise.
I get up and use my iPhone as a flashlight. I tiptoe around the house and see that all is safe. I check on the baby and get back into bed. I'm not sure how much time passes, but I hear the thump again and then I hear a little voice say "I See You" (shudder).
I knew the voice immediately. Its Emily's Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Puppy.

Any parent that has this dog knows how obnoxiously sensitive it is. You look at it sideways and it will sing or tell you it loves you or even worse "I see you" .

I wake up the husband and tell him that I heard a noise and Emilys toy go off. He does his husbandly duty and ventures to discover the disturbance.

More time passes, a few seconds, a minute, I dont know, its dark and Im tired. I dont hear any wrestling so I follow him.

Nothing...there is nothing...But I heard the puppy!!! So I have to know what made it go off. I search around for it and it is on the floor between the base board and Emilys tent. There is no way anything touched it! What happened! And why of all the 20+ phrases this puppy says, did it have to say "I See You!"
I may never know.

I figure when I cant sleep its because the Lord wants me to pray. So I prayed. And I also came up with another solution...

If puppy is going to be creepy and wake me up at night, I'm putting it to work.

If anyone tries to come in uninvited in the middle of night...Puppy will let me know.

Sloman Shield aint got nothing on this dog!
