30 with 30: Maternity Edition

I am not by any means a "Style Blogger" (To be honest I don't know what category I would fall in :). But there is a little project out there in the blog-world called 30 with 30. Basically you go through your closet and  try to mix and match outfits in different ways in an effort to stretch your wardrobe. I hate buying maternity clothes (I feel like they are such a waste of money) so I thought I would give this project a try. I am getting bigger every week and am not sure how far I can stretch this project but its kinda fun and I realized I have  A LOT of clothes that I can use! I think this will also be a good reminder to NOT go shopping for a little while :)
Below are pics of the pieces I have chosen. I didn't include some maternity dresses and shirts because they don't really lend themselves to creativity.

Here I am at week 28, I am now at week 29. This is NOT a maternity dress. See how short it is :)

8 dresses~2 skirts

1 pair of treggings~1 pair of cargo's~1 pair of shorts

6 tops

2 pair o' leggings, pink bangles, blue bangles, yellow belt, 4 shoes and my "staples"

These are my "staple" items that I wear practically everyday. They are all from Fossil.

After posting this pic I realized I really only have 29 items...LOL! Ill rotate one in there some where :) Tomorrow I hope to post my first 3 mash-ups! Stay tuned!

Fathers Day DIY

I am a little late in posting this but here is what Em and I made dad for Fathers Day.

Fathers Day gift. Some nice words and pics of tot doing "Daddy-things"

Pretty easy and very inexpensive but cute I think and dad can hang it in his office.
Basically I printed out the "daddy words" from a link I got from Pinterest. And then we took a bunch of pics of Em doing "Daddy-Things" i.e. playing guitar, wearing a tie and boots and his infamous Yankees cap.
Then we used little picture holder place holders that people use for scrap-booking and stuck them on to a piece of black construction paper. THAT'S IT!

I DIM! Tot Style

To beat the heat we are staying indoors. I even brought Em's new water table into the kitchen because I couldn't handle sitting next to her on the porch while she played. For an additional activity we experimented with making SLIME!!! I got the idea from pinterest, but the recipe called for liquid starch! I don't know ANYONE that has liquid starch in their home ready to use. So I found another recipe online here. The end result was less like slime and more like soupy play-dough, but it was still kinda fun to play with and less toxic too.
The recipe was pretty simple...
1 Cup of Warm Water, 1 Cup of Corn Starch, mix with a "wooden spoon" .
I do not have a wooden spoon but I think I need to get one as I keep coming across recipes that don't want me using my plastic serving spoons to mix...not sure why.
She kept saying "Yucky...Boop!" Mimicking mom picking it up and plopping it on the table.

Em paints her nails with her "slime"
Its supposed to keep for a week, We will see.

UPDATE!!!
The Goopy Slime DID NOT Keep in the zip lock bag. It turned a splotchy type of green and started to separate a little. So I tossed it. We have moved on to store bought Play-dough :)

If you were looking for government secrets here. Alas you were misled.

A Very Berry Birthday

Em's Berry Birthday was this weekend. It was fun and thank the Lord that the heat wave broke the day of the party. She had fun, we had fun, the kids had fun.
A Berry Themed Birthday Party. A lot of recipes came from Pinterest

Berry Punch

Berry Trifle

Em covers her ears when she is uncomfortable.

But she enjoys the treats

Singing!

Party Planning is exhausting, and everything is more exhausting when you are pregnant. I ended up getting really sick after the party, but since I am the only one that got sick I'm thinking it was pregnancy related and perhaps I had been overdoing it the past few weeks. This week I have been taking it pretty easy and the house reflects that :) I have so many different things I wanted to do when I knew I would have more time to do them and I havent checked a single thing off my list yet (except this blog post).
But I dont have plans for the rest of the summer except a few DIY projects, some Bible Studies and oh yeah preparing for our second kiddo.
There really isnt a lot of prep work in getting ready for the second baby. We have all the girl stuff we need. So really, Im just waiting, keeping busy and taking it easy all at the same time :)

Learnin' and Returnin' Thanks

Its been a while since I did a Learnin' and Returnin' Thanks post, not because I havent learned anything or am not thankful for anything, but mostly because I am still reading the same book since my last post that was  written of September 2011! I think it is time again to bring back this post on a more regular basis :)

Starting with...

I am Thankful for,
A fun day at Sesame Place with friends on Ems 2nd Bday! She had fun although you could not always tell because her face is VERY serious very often. We went to see Elmo's world show and she was heckling Elmo and telling him "NO! NO! " And she cried almost every time we got off of one ride to get onto another.
She ended up catching a little bug and has had a fever and cold the past couple days but we regret nothing!
Em and Abby Cadabby

Em eating Cotton Candy while watching the parade. She ate A LOT of candy!

What I am readin'
Like I said, I am still "reading" New York: A Novel. It really is a good book, but it spans several generations so after a few chapters you are reading about new people in a new time, so its almost like starting a new book...sort of. I dont feel the need to find out what happens next immediately. So I am taking my sweet time. I am about half way through and about to enter the civil war. I really do like it. But am not in a hurry to finish. In the mean time I am working on a Beth Moore Bible Study. Breaking Free. It is a very good study and I hope to share what I am learning from that.

What I have learned this week.
I am learning a lot from the Breaking Free Bible Study, which also surprised me. I thought that this study would not be very applicable to my life and that it would be for people that needed to "break free" from serious or deadly addictions and situations. This study would indeed help those people, but it also for people like me that are just living day to day, waiting on the Lord in what seems to be a long quiet waiting period.
What I specifically learned recently is what it means to give glory to God. Basically it means to make Him known. Since I have learned that, I seem to understand what I need to be doing on a daily basis a little bit more.
I have also learned that I often felt like as a Christian, since I am saved, I should be grateful for my salvation  and should not expect too much else in life from God. I told myself that all the things God said he will give us in the Bible are really only applicable in the afterlife. The thing is I didn't realize that this is what I thought and would pray but not really expect God to always answer. At least not MY prayers. I believed he would answer others prayers, and my prayers are fine but unless I was praying about someones salvation or soul then they were just vain and superficial. I am slooowly learning that my prayers are valid and that God loves me too. He has more to give me than just salvation.

The new pretty book of the Breaking Free Bible Study
The book I have because I bought  it before and forgot.

What surprised me.
I am getting VERY good picking stuff up with my toes! I am six months pregnant and it is getting harder and harder to bend down and pick stuff up. Em leaves A LOT of stuff on the ground and its just easier to grab stuff with my toes and clean up that way. If I bend over, I get all out of breath and it is just too much work to get back up, so then I just end up hanging out on the floor and getting nothing done.

Em's bday party is this weekend and I have procrastinated WAAAY too long on the preparations. Hopefully I get all the things done that I want to get done. I also have a  lot of things that I want to blog about.
So stayed tuned.

Adventures in Sewing Day Three

Monday I bought fabric and supplies.
Tuesday I opened the box.
Wednesday I made my first project
It is Thursday and we leave on Friday for vacation and I was GOING to have that maxi dress!
I found this blog and tutorial on Pinterest and I am ready to go.
Trying to sew with a toddler around is a bit of a challenge and space is limited. I also had to pack and I scheduled husband and I to see a foreclosed home for sale...good times. But when all was said and done I finished the dress!
The dress was a little shorter than  I wanted  and my belly looks larger due to the stripes :)

I sewed the fabric to a white tank and am wearing a pink one under that.
AND I got to wear it on vacation!

The dress was a little shorter than I wanted, my belly really lifts the dress up. So I am thinking about adding navy blue trim to the bottom and using a navy blue sash/belt instead of using of striped one. I may even add pockets! Stay tuned. And THEN after baby is born maybe it might be a little more flattering.
All in all, I am happy that I made my dress in time for vacation and I learned this all in a week :)

I love my Fossil Watch and Fossil rhinestone jewelry. The bangles are from Old Navy.
Okay, so if there are any ladies out there that have any tips or tidbits I would LOVE to hear them!
